Dear Sailing Boats,

I haven't sailed for a time now, but I'm still romanced by your graceful skimming across smooth ocean, your steady lean, your sails taut against the wind.   I love your dipping and weaving, the splashes on your glossy deck.

I'm reminded of Safety Beach Sailing Club, rigging the catamaran and taking her out in the firm breeze.  She dances joyously, letting the air run over her tightening sails and she lists daringly to one side, dipping me in the water as I hold the harness and trapeze for the first time.

Around the Whitsunday Islands, just my friend and I and a twenty five foot yacht.  Two weeks navigating channels, exploring islands, taming the boat, trimming the sails, mooring in secret places.  At night, sometimes silence, sometimes lapping, seafarers stars above, sea turtles circling, curious heads bobbing, us rocked to sleep until dawn's gentle light.

Sailing boats, thank you for making the oceans even more alluring.
